Instagram legend and makeup magician Kim Chi did the world a huge favor while filming “RuPaul’s Drag Race” when she took a moment to educate Michelle Visage, and the show’s thousands of viewers, on the impact homonormativity has on the Asian LGBTQ population. She talked candidly about how common it is to come across the phrase “no fats, fems or Asians” on gay hook-up sites, which subsequently shined a spotlight on how cisgender white gay men dominate representation of the LGBTQ community in entertainment. “Fat, fem and Asian” went on to become Kim Chi’s platform, upon which she preached the importance of embracing one’s heritage (and curvature). It was even turned into a catchy dance tune!
